Job Description

•Provide contract review, legal and commercial advice to support the development of the business in Chinaļ¼Ž
•Provide legal advice to resolve commercial disputes, including through negotiation, arbitration and litigation.
•Provide legal advice on acquisitions and other significant financing and commercial transactions in China.
•Support efforts to comment on draft regulations and other government initiatives.
•As part of the management team for China, assist in the development of overall strategies and processes for the business.
•Work closely with compliance teams performing diligence on third parties.
•Work with their other affiliates in Asia, the US and Europe to address policy and other commercial questions relating to China.
•Drive and participate in compliance processes and training.
•Identify emerging regulatory and policy issues and to make appropriate recommendations.
•Retain and supervise external counsel to provide legal advice to the business as needed.
•Work with a very supporting and encouraging legal team.

Requirements

Education & Experience
•Law degree and at least 4 years post-qualification legal experience in a law-firm or in-house position in China.

Knowledge & Skills
•Knowledge of law and commercial practice in China. (Some familiarity with dispute resolution, corporate law or the medical industry would be preferred.)
•Native fluency in Chinese (including drafting). Some knowledge of English (fluency not required).
•Desire to learn and grow professionally in a challenging and complex business environment.
•Ability to function as a proactive partner for teams from different departments within the company.
•Ability to work independently as the sole lawyer staffed to a matter.
•Integrity. Strong sense of integrity and belief in integrity as a core value in business.
•Flexibility, sense of humor and the willingness to train and encourage others.
•Note: A JD or LLM degree from an overseas law school is not required, but would of course be welcome. PRC legal experience is required.
